Require a would-be law student to first work for a year as a paralegal?

Here’s an interesting suggestion from a commenter at the Wall Street Journal’s Law Blog (scroll down to 1:42 am May 22):

Require all law school applicants to first work as paralegals for at least 1 year, just as MBA programs require relevant business ex­per­i­ence. …

One classmate i[n] law school told me that of her friends from college who were sure they wanted to be lawyers, and got para­legal jobs in NYC at big firms, only about half still wanted to be lawyers 9 months later.
