There was an interesting piece in Friday’s NY Times – doctors in Houston are treating patients on oil rigs in the South China Sea by high-grade video hookup, with a paramedic serving as the doctor’s on-scene “hands.”
Apparently this kind of tele-medicine is catching on because of its lower costs and its ability to serve distant patients, for example in rural areas.
I’ve seen much the same thing in my law practice: It’s gotten easier and easier to work with faraway clients, because we can do just about everything we need by email, by phone, and by Skype video conferencing and screen-sharing.
